About the Jail Museum at 52 Tolland Green:
The museum is also the headquarters for the Tolland Historical Society, features a cellblock that dates to 1856 and the attached jailer’s home from 1893. Its exhibits include thousands of items used in Tolland homes, farms and businesses. The goal is to tell the story of Tolland and Tolland County in the 19th and early 20th Century.
Each year, Tolland third graders visit for Tolland Green Day in May and learn about local history. Special programs are held in the shed display area and demonstrations occur on Sundays. See our Program schedule of a listing.
The cellblock is available for rent for film-making, weddings and other events appropriate to a museum setting. For more information, contact Museum Director Kathy Bach at 860-872-7716.
The museum is also home to a popular internship program for students in grades 7 to 12. The students are trained in all manner of museum workings (accessioning artifacts, constructing displays, giving tours, research etc. ). Watch for more information about the program’s orientation each Spring.
We are across the street from the Court House Museum and next door to the Military Museum. You can schedule package tours.
