A successful 54th Annual Tolland Antiques Show in 2023!

The Tolland Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Tolland Antiques Show will return after a two-year hiatus on Sunday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tolland Middle School at 1 Falcon Way in Tolland.
     This will be the society’s 54^th show and is being held with a new partner, Goosefare Antiques & Promotions of Saco, Maine. Owned by John and Elizabeth DeSimone, Goosefare has been promoting high-quality antiques shows throughout New England for 40 years.
     Antiques lovers: make plans to come to the Tolland show, which will feature 40 dealers from throughout New England, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio. It has been one of the premier events in the Northeast dealing in early Americana for more than five decades. 
     The show will feature 18th- and 19th-century American furniture, accessories, textiles, rugs, prints, folk art, paintings, redware and early iron. Many items are of museum quality.
Admission is $10. Parking is free, and lunch will be available for a modest price.
The show is a benefit for the Tolland Historical Society, with proceeds supporting the three museums the society operates, the Old Tolland County Court House Museum, the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum and the Daniel Benton Homestead, and the Tolland Military Museum, which it sponsors. Proceeds also support the many programs that the society holds for the public and its curriculum-related programs in the Tolland school system.
     There’s still time for Tolland-area businesses to take advantage of special advertising pricing by bundling ads in the Antiques Show Book, the society’s quarterly newsletter, the Tolland Times, and at its website, tollandhistorical.org.      A difficult, but necessary decision

     Our thoughtful and deliberate Tolland Antiques Show director, Mary-Pat Soucy, in consultation with the Tolland Historical Society board, has made the appropriate decision to cancel the 2020 show.
     In a letter to past dealers, she wrote that “with declining markets and unpredictable income, the prudent decision for this year is to focus all of our efforts on our Court House.”     
     She was referring to the large capital project the society is undertaking to restore its 1822 Court House Museum cupola and bell tower. Soucy, who also handles major fundraising events for the society, is planning fundraising opportunities to raise about $150,000 for the project in 2020.
     This was a difficult decision after running a successful show for 53 years, but we have to focus on preserving our beautiful museum on the Tolland Green.

Another Successful Antiques Show!
Despite the sloppy weather on Sunday, March 10, antiques lovers from across New England turned out to make the 53rd Annual Tolland Antiques Show a success.

The many customers joined our dealers who traveled from as far away as New York, Pennsylvania and Maine for this high-quality show.

Thank you to Show Director Mary-Pat Soucy, Deputy Director Dr. Sharron Laplante and our many volunteers who made the event flow seamlessly.

The 53rd Annual Tolland Antiques Show

Calling all antiques lovers: be sure to join us Sunday, March 10 for the Tolland Historical Society’s largest annual fundraiser – the 53rd annual Tolland Antiques Show!
     The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tolland Middle School at 1 Falcon Way. Admission is $10. Parking is free, and delicious lunch choices will be available from Willington Pizza at modest prices.
     With more than 40 dealers from throughout New England, New York and Pennsylvania, the show is one of the premier events in the Northeast dealing in early Americana. The show will feature 18th- and 19th-century American furniture, accessories, textiles, rugs, prints, folk art, paintings, redware and early iron. Many items are of museum quality.
     The show is a benefit for the Tolland Historical Society, with proceeds supporting the Old Tolland County Courthouse, the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum and the Daniel Benton Homestead. Proceeds also support the many programs that the society sponsors in the community and its curriculum-related programs in the Tolland school system.

The show will also feature a display of antique quilts, with each one telling a story. Kate Farrish, secretary of the Tolland Historical Society and author of the Tolland chapter of the “Connecticut 169 Club” book will be selling and signing copies of the book. It features a chapter on each of our state’s 169 towns and cities and costs $24.95, with the proceeds being donated to the Society.

Special Display Planned for the 52nd Annual Tolland Antiques Show

Everyone attending the Tolland Historical Society’s Tolland Antiques Show can enjoy a sample of local history at the entrance, a wall display featuring the Tolland County Temporary Home, which was located in Vernon Center for 68 years, beginning in 1887.

This exhibit will provide an overview of the County Home program: why children were placed there, what life was like for a County Home child and how they fit in to the local community. There will also be some research tips and photographs.

     The 52^nd Tolland Antiques Show is scheduled for March 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tolland Middle School.
     This event is a major fundraiser for the Tolland Historical Society, and proceeds from the show support the Society’s three local museums – the Daniel Benton Homestead, the Old Tolland County Courthouse Museum and the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum
      Every year, we print an Antique Show book, which details our antiques dealers and also gives a summary of Tolland history. Local businesses are encouraged to advertise!
      We offer a variety of advertising opportunities:

1. Our Antiques Show Book reaches a large audience of visitors as well as an eclectic mix of local, East Coast and mid-Atlantic state dealers and has done so for five decades. A full-page, 5 x 8-inch ad is $90; a half-page, 5 x 4-inch ad is $50, and a quarter-page, 5 x 2-inch ad is $35.
2. You may also choose to advertise in our quarterly Tolland Times newsletter, which, for the past 13 years, has circulated to our Society membership and Tolland residents. The cost is a $30 if purchased alone or you can purchase an ad in the Antiques Show Book and spend an extra $15, and you can have double coverage. If you decide to purchase a dual advertising block, you get a free business card-sized ad on the website, tollandhistorical.org.
