DANIEL BENTON HOMESTEAD
Built in 1720 and occupied by the Benton family for 212 years, this is the earliest house museum in Tolland County.

OLD TOLLAND COUNTY JAIL AND MUSEUM
The oldest cellblock dates from 1856, jailer's home from 1893. Thousand of items used in Tolland homes, farms and businesses.

OLD TOLLAND COUNTY COURT HOUSE
Beautiful 1822 courthouse in a transitional Colonial to Federal style with original Palladian window. Courtroom restored to 19th Century appearance. Exhibits.

     We couldn’t have asked for a better crew of dealers and volunteers, who each year, make this event a major fundraising success for the Society.

You’re invited to the Tolland Historical Society’s 50th Anniversary Masquerade Ball on Saturday, June 3

     The Tolland Historical Society is inviting members of the public to buy tickets for “Arlyne’s Gold,” its 50th Anniversary Masquerade Ball, on Saturday, June 3 at 6 p.m.
     The celebration honors the late Arlyne Garrity, the first president of the society when it was founded in 1966.
     Cocktails will be served from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the secret garden at the Hicks-Stearns Museum on the Tolland Green. Dinner, catered by Tolland’s own Country Caterers, begins at 7 p.m., followed by the big band music of Kats N’Jammers until midnight.
      Seating is limited, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible. Member seats are $50 per person, and non-member seats are $65, which includes a one-year membership to the society.
     Tickets can be purchased at the Tolland Red and White store at 46 Tolland Green or by contacting gala chairperson Celeste Senechal at celeste5@gmail.com.
     Dress is formal. This will be a night to remember with specials guests, prizes for fashion and historical characters and games. Masks are suggested and will be available for a donation to the Hicks-Stearns Museum, which is donating the use of its property for the event.

Tolland Antiques Show Scheduled for April 23

Save the date: The Tolland Historical Society will hold its popular Tolland Antiques Show on Sunday, April 23.

As the Society continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, it is pleased to host the show, which features 65 dealers from throughout New England, Pennsylvania and New York. It is one of the premier events in the Northeast dealing in early Americana.
The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tolland Middle School at 1 Falcon Way off Old Cathole Road in Tolland. Admission is $9.

Mary-Pat Soucy is the new show director, and Dr. Sharron Laplante is the new deputy director.

The show will feature 18th- and 19th-century American furniture, accessories, textiles, rugs, prints, folk art, paintings, redware and early iron. Many items are of museum quality.
The show is a benefit for the society, with proceeds supporting the Old Tolland County Courthouse, the Old Tolland County Jail & Museum and the Daniel Benton Homestead. Proceeds also support the many programs that the society sponsors in the community and curriculum-related programs in the school system.

Historical Society’s 50th Anniversary Fundraising Drive Continues

The Tolland Historical Society has raised $5,570 to date in its fundraising drive that coincides with this year’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The donations include a generous $3,000 gift from David Garrity, in honor of his parents, the late Harold Garrity and the late Arlyne Garrity. Mrs. Garrity was the first president of the Tolland Historical Society in 1966 and Mr. Garrity offered his legal services to help establish the Society.
Their contributions to the formation of the Society will be recognized on June 3, 2017 when the Society holds “Arlyne’s Gold: the Tolland Historical Society 50th Anniversary Gala” from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hicks-Stearns Museum on the historic Tolland Green. Donations are still be accepted to support the preservation of our three beloved museums: the Daniel Benton Homestead, the Old Tolland County Court House and the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum. The funds raised will also support our programs, including the annual Tolland Green Day, on which Tolland third graders visit the museums and the green to learn all about local history.

Trick or Treat at the Jail Museum!

Ghouls and goblins of all ages are invited to trick or treat at the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum on Halloween.

The museum on the historic Tolland green will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 for Tolland families to trick or treat for free.

Our museums have closed for the season in October 2016, but the Historical Society members are busy planning for 2017.
We are continuing to accept tax-deductible donations to support the maintenance of our three beloved museums: the Daniel Benton Homestead, the Old Tolland County Court House and the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum. Celeste Senechal is leading a committee planning the Historical Society’s gala for June 3, 2017. It will be held at the Hicks-Stearns Museum on the historic Tolland Green from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will feature the swing music of Kats ‘n’ Jammers.
